Restaurant Review: Aniar, Galway

Aniar is a 1-Michelin star joint in Galway specializing in local irish foods.  All ingredients are locally sourced.  Your meal here won't be cheap, but it will be an experience you will be glad you invested in.

We had the chef's tasting menu.  Given that this changes daily, I'll briefly describe what we had for each course, and let the pictures tell the story.

Amuse: Fried potato dumplings with fried kale.
Bread: Irish soda bread, sourdough, and foccacia. Came with homemade butter (!) and sea salt. Delicious.
Appetizer: Sus vide salmon with trout roe and cucumber. The salmon was melt-in-your-mouth soft, and I pretty much decided that everything tastes better with trout roe.
Appetizer: Asparagus and local greens salad with a poached egg and local irish goat cheese.
Main: Seared scalaps with pork lardon on a bed of peas. Amazing.
Main: Beef cheeks with rhubarb (in season--and delicious) and onion.
Side: Boiled potatoes in butter. Of course.
Cheese: An amazing plate of diverse Irish cheeses. Fantastic.
Desert: Homemade icrecream on chocolate "dirt" with whiskey gelees and raw rhubarb soaked in sugar. The gelees we didn't care for, but the rhubarb, well, I could eat a bucket of just that.

This place is utterly amazing.  Second best meal we ate in Ireland.  If you enjoy good food, make sure to reserve a table here during your stay in Galway.
