Restaurant Review: Patrick Guilbaud, Dublin

Our finale for Ireland was a meal at Patrick Guilbaud, a French restaurant near Trinity College.  This is probably the best place to eat in Ireland.

In a word: wow.  We went with the tasting menu and let the chef and sommelier do their thing.  It was an expensive evening, but absolutely one of the best meals we've had--certainly up there with Alinea, Manresa, and other similarly respected establishments.

I'm really not qualified to review food like this, so I'll simply let the pictures tell the story.   This was an amazing meal.

The amuse was creampuffs filled with gruyère cheese.
Course #1: oyster on the half shell along with a soup.
Course #2: seared foi gras with peanuts, a cocoa crisp, and miso ice cream.
Course #3: a wonderful marriage of halibut and almonds.
Course #4: poached blue lobster.
Course #5: caramelized veal sweetbreads with rosemary and smoked potato.
The cheese course, made up of all Irish cheeses--with wine pairings.  This was fantastic.
And finally, desert.  This a parfait of pistachio and vanilla, with raspberry meringues.
Wait--TWO deserts?  You bet.  This is a dark chocolate tart.  Utterly melt-in-your-mouth.
...And they weren't going to let us go without a few last treats.  The mignardises were fantastic.

What a meal.  At the end, we were lucky enough to meet the chef, a very nice older fellow who spent a few minutes talking to both of us.

If you're in Dublin, have the funds, and are looking for a fantastic meal, then you owe it to yourself to experience an evening at Patrick Guilbaud.
